Tully-Rinckey
A full-service law firm that came to us with the need of a rebrand and redesign of their website to optimize search engine visibility and increase web conversion.

Overview
To address the falling rate of leads, we needed to provide both a brand refresh, as well as a foolproof strategy that would allow Tully-Rinckey to stay relevant and competitive for years to come. Our new design focuses on a few important goals: a strong SEO strategy, the ability to scale, and to build trust with its users.
Doing the Research

When we asked the client about the different types of users, they explained that, as a full-service law firm, they see almost every segment of the population. They mentioned, however, that their top practice areas were federal employment law and military law, and that many of their clients are former military and employees of the government.
We looked into their website data and noticed that the age and gender demographics were pretty similar across the board.

To get a better understanding of how we wanted to design Tully-Rinckey’s website, I put together a competitor analysis to compare industry trends and holistically determine a good law firm experience.
Establishing the Design
S I T E M A P
By this stage of the project, I had a very good understanding of how we should organize the site architecture. I created this sitemap to present how information should be displayed across the main navigation and to show what webpages should be prioritized.

To better understand the client’s vision, my team walked the Tully-Rinckey team through a branding exercise, where we helped them define six components of their brand: culture, voice, ideal customer, impact, feeling, x-factor.
Once we compiled a list of adjectives for each of the components, we narrowed them down to the top three, then eventually to one. This exercise helped guide a lot of our decisions, not only for design, but for our content strategy as well.

We created three different style guides with varying color palettes and typefaces, but ultimately decided on a color scheme that modernized the blue and gold theme used on their previous design. Additionally, we updated their generic fonts in exchange for Raleway, a much more elegant font, to bring attention to the headers and sub-headers, and Libre Franklin for its versatility in weights and long-form text.

I wanted the new Tully-Rinckey website to feel much more modern and trustworthy, a complete 180 from their previous, copy-heavy and outdated design. To achieve this, my team refreshed the visual design and worked with the client to define the new look.

Below, are a few examples of the visual design expanded from the style guide. Once we built our client’s trust and became comfortable with our color swatch, we began conceptualizing key pages in our design. We used sharp design elements, images of iconic buildings, and patriotic backgrounds with strong blue overlays to keep the color consistency.
Working with SEO Strategy
In this project, SEO was a major factor to consider. I worked closely with our SEO team to understand their needs, and ensure that our designs were curated to their overall strategy.
Service Page
The image shown here is an example of a service page. Service pages function as general landing pages for users searching for specific offerings offered by Tully-Rinckey. When users get to this webpage, they are prompted to select a location from the dropdown menu on the right.
SEO - Header tags, optimized copy, and bullet points that are keyword optimized
Design - Location Selector with white space
Conversion - Contact Us CTA placed right below the main content area
Location Page
The image shown here is a location page. Location pages are meant to land those users who input searches such as, “Law Office in [Specified Location]” or “Tully Rinckey [Location]”. Once users arrive on this page, they are prompted with options to click on a specific practice area or get information pertaining to that specific location's office.
SEO - Optimized header tags along with copy, practice area keywords, and location details for improving search engine accuracy
Design - Provides the user options to explore more services or contact that specific law office
Conversion - Included options to browse services and research attorneys
Service Location Page
The image shown here is the service-location page. These pages were designed to be the most optimized page for search engine crawling, given the nature of having both the service and the location in the main header tags. Besides being able to handle a great amount of copy, we’ve added additional content that is helpful for building trust and guiding users towards conversion.
SEO - Prioritized service and location in the header tags, along with strategic copy for users to learn about the services, with a dual purpose of being search engine-friendly
Design - Established unique elements that help manage heavy copy, as well as trust-building details
Conversion - Wanted to use this page to provide additional resources, such as featuring attorneys and showing the onboarding process, and to give users the confidence to contact Tully-Rinckey

Designing for Scalability
Because scaling their business was another goal of Tully-Rinckey's, it was important to design elements that can be reused across their website. The following elements have been optimized to produce great SEO results, and intuitive enough for users to understand their functions.
Location Selector
Years of Experience
Hub Page Design
Tabbed Content
Conclusion
Once our design was complete and fully-developed and QA'd, we successfully pushed the product live. In the end, we created a product that emphasized trust, was easy to scale, and optimized for the search engine. Our user flows were well-defined and the designs were very intuitive. The Tully-Rinckey team loved the finished product and relayed satisfaction from their new and existing clients who enjoy the web experience.
